Equipment Loans

The School of Computing and Mathematics have a number of digital cameras and camcorders available for imd students to borrow to help with their studies and in completing assignments. If you need to borrow a piece of equipment then you should carefully read the following procedure, including the fines policy for equipment that is returned late.

Procedures for Borrowing Equipment

1. As part of their programme of study, students on the BSc (Hons) Interactive Multimedia Design course require access to specialist equipment such as digital still and video cameras.

2. Stephen Lyttle and Jim Bailie in room 16C32 will hold and be responsible for the issue of all of the specialist equipment provided. To borrow an item of equipment, a student should check the item for any damage and ensure all accessories are included. Any damage and/or missing accessories should be noted on the issue form, which will then be signed by the student. The issue form will state an agreed date and time by which the equipment is to be returned. Students are advised to note this date and time carefully. Stephen Lyttle and Jim Bailie will retain the issue form.

3. Normally the period of loan will be at most 48 hours (unless borrowed over a weekend or holiday period during which the University is officially closed), but students are asked to return equipment as soon as possible to facilitate other students.

4. In the event that the student requires an item which is already on loan, a waiting list will be held (on a first-come, first-served basis) and the student given a date and time when the required item is due to be returned and hence when they should be able to borrow it.

5. Equipment should be returned to Stephen Lyttle and Jim Bailie on or before the date and time specified. The responsibility for returning the equipment lies with the person who signed the issue form. On return, Stephen Lyttle and Jim Bailie will check the item for any new damage and/or missing accessories. Assuming there are no faults with the returned equipment, Stephen and Jim  will then sign and date the issue form to confirm receipt. It is in the interest of the student to ensure that this signature is added to the form and the date and time of return is accurately recorded.

6. If any of the accessories are missing, non-returned items will be listed on the form and these should be returned within 24 hours (sooner if possible, but again excluding week-ends and periods when the University is officially closed).

7. If there is damage to the equipment, a brief report stating the nature of the damage will be completed and signed by either Stephen or Jim and the student. This will then be referred to the Course Director to determine what further action is necessary.
