Notes.

Open-Access implies that the use of a registered Novell userid and password is not required. During Open-Access the user logs in using the room number with no password.

The only distinction between Open and Restricted access is one of time - an Open-Access student has full access to software, printing facilities, on-line lecture notes and teaching materials.

In exceptional circumstances Informatics may schedule a teaching class during an Open-Access period in which case access is at the discretion of the lecturer concerned.

Policy Statement

In order to achieve a balance between formal teaching sessions, use by students from the Faculty of Informatics and use by students from other Faculties, the following policy for access to the Computing facilities in Block 16 has been adopted.

Formal teaching sessions have priority in Computing facilities between the hours of 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday. Formal teaching is continuous at these times and consequently Restricted-Access is the norm.

After 5pm on weekdays and at weekends there is a mixed policy with some Computing facilities designated as Open-Access and some as Restricted-Access. Please consult the access time-table above for details. It is anticipated that this mix will optimize access for ALL students.
