Block 16 Jordanstown cabling infrastructure
The building has a structured system with unshielded twisted pair(UTP) cabling, two data points per office, classroom and seminar room, additional points in laboratories, research areas and the Faculty Office.
The basic UTP cabling can be used for either 10BaseT or 100BaseT Ethernet network connection, an asynchronous communications line from a PAD or for printer connections between servers and remote printers.
Provision has been made for the future installation of fibre into all areas (tubes are in place for insertion of blown fibre).
All laboratories (16C26,16C27,16C28,16C29,16E28,16E29,16G26,16G27) and some research areas have Fast Ethernet switches for 100 Mb/s 100BaseT connections to servers and a 10Mb/s switched connection to each workstation.
An Ethernet switch and Fast Ethernet HUB are used to segregate laboratory traffic from the main campus backbone.
