AIMS OF THE HANDBOOK

The aims of the manual are as follows:

LAYOUT

The keystones of the manual are the individual chapters dealing with the main applications of the TI-85 graphic calculator for each topic. The TI-85 Handbook has six chapters. For most users of the manual it will be essential to read the introductory chapter, ‘Getting Started with the TI-85’, before moving on. The remaining chapters (2 to 6) were developed so that the reader may delve into any one of them without first working through the preceding chapters.

The manual begins with a chapter on ‘Getting Started with the TI-85’. The second chapter, ‘Matrices on the TI-85’, explores the use of the TI-85 in matrix algebra. The third chapter, ‘Statistics on the TI-85’, applies both the statistical and list capabilities of the TI-85. Chapter four, ‘Graphing on the TI-85’ introduces the reader to the graphical features of the calculator. The functions applicable to differential equations are outlined in chapter five ‘Differential Equations on the TI-85’. Finally, the programming capabilities are applied in chapter six, ‘Programming on the TI-85’.

This handbook assumes that the user has some familiarity with the topics presented and wants to find ways to use the TI-85 effectively and appropriately. Each chapter contains worked examples and by practising with these opportunities users can increase their confidence considerably.

TI-GRAPH LINK

The use of the TI-graph link was availed of in the production of this manual. The TI-graph link is an integrated communications link and data manager for the PC. It can be used to transfer data between the TI-85 and a PC, or between calculators of the same type. Another use of the link is to capture screen images for use in word-processing - as illustrated in this manual.
